The stain is in one place. Is that where the leak is?
Usually not. Water runs along the underside of the deck and down the rafters before it finds a seam to come through, so the wet patch on the ceiling can be a long way from the way in. That is why we look at the roof rather than quoting from the stain - fixing the shingle above the mark and finding the ceiling still wet a month later helps nobody.
Can you deal with the ceiling as well as the roof?
Yes, and it is worth doing in one arrangement. A leak usually leaves two jobs behind it - the way in, and the drywall, paint or trim it ruined on the way through. We do the drywall and the painting as well, so the whole thing is one estimate and one visit rather than a roofer and then somebody else.
